San Lorenzo Olive OilYou never know what will inspire me to get back on my soap box.   Months ago, it was hand lotion and today…  Olive oil.  Not just any olive oil though…  This one deserved a letter to Italy, which led to a delicious reunion.

Last Spring, my partner Jason and I drove across Germany, visiting local farmer’s markets and eating all the kohlrabi and fresh baked bread we could get our hands on.  While visiting a small market in Münster, I asked a woman tending a farm stand packed with fresh vegetables, olive oils, and vinegars, which of the oils was her favorite.  She replied with an enthusiastic, “Definitely THIS one,” while handing me a dark bottle of San Lorenzo’s “Olio Extra Vergine di’ Oliva”.

We could barely contain ourselves, pouring it over our homemade loaves and anything else that would soak up it’s rich, fruity flavor.  When the bottle sadly reached it’s end, I wrote the name on a piece of hotel paper and tucked it away with as much care (if not more) as my passport.

Recently, I was reminded of this piece of paper and the most delicious olive oil I have ever tasted.  I soon discovered that it is not as readily available as I had hoped– so I did what any olive oil lover would do, and wrote San Lorenzo a letter.   A few days later, I received a kind and generous response, along with the contact information of a woman in Kentucky who would end up making my day.   In short, the olive oil has (serendipitously) JUST arrived in the U.S.  and is awaiting acceptance from (of all places) Whole Foods Market!  Needless to say, I’m thrilled.

In the meantime, you can actually find this oil here on Amazon!  I highly recommend giving this a try.  Even if you are not as nutty about good olive oil as I am, I have a feeling you will not be disappointed…

Mangia!
Enjoy…

IMG_2483I just received my shipment of handmade salves from Julie Charette Nun of “Crow’s Daughter’s Earthly Goods.”  I love Julie’s products and often use them for both work and at home.  This time I ordered something I’ve never tried before– Northwest Forest Lotion.

I tend to get dry hands during this this time of year (especially with frequent washing while I work), and this year I want to nip it in the bud (so-to-speak). I’ve tried MANY hand lotions over the years, and I have to say, this is one of the best I have EVER used.

The tiniest dab soothed and hydrated my skin, while the clean, light aroma soothed my soul.  The lotion is incredibly pure and simple, made with Douglas fir, Western red cedar, pine, alder, wild rose and elderflower—infused in organic olive oil, filtered water and bees wax.  Yum.

Many of Julie’s  herbal ingredients are hand gathered, and her products are prepared with reverence at her home and garden on Whidbey Island.  If you are interested in learning more about her products, classes and other earthly delights, check out her website at crowsdaughter.com.

Thank you, Julie—for the wisdom, talent and love that infuses everything you create!
