I have to admit, I have a biased interest in David Tucker, LAc, LMP’s upcoming workshop on the Earth Element. Not only because I have great appreciation for David as a dear friend and colleague, but I also happen to have a special affinity for the subject matter.
According to Chinese medicine, the Earth element is associated “Nourishment” in every sense of the word—from physiological digestion to “receiving” the most richness out of life. In David’s words, “Earth represents the archetype of the Mother and allows us to truly feel nourished. Be connected to our center, have stability, ground, the ability to receive and process the world around us, compassion to take care of ourselves and others.”
Even if you do not experience difficulties with digestion, nourishment, feeling grounded, or knowing how to balance giving and receiving, this is a workshop not to be missed. I will be there myself, and I hope to see you there!

I am excited to announce that Elana Sabajon (an amazing teacher, practitioner and individual) will be offering an eight-week course in “Nonviolent Communication Foundations” beginning May 13th. I took this class with Elana last November, and I can honestly say it has dramatically changed my life. I feel more peace and joy in all of my relationships (including with myself) and I have new tools to approach previously “challenging” subjects with confidence and ease—and so much more…
The class is based on the teachings of Marshall Rosenberg Ph.D., who was nominated for a Nobel Peace Price (multiple times) for developing this powerful yet simple technique, called “Nonviolent Communication” (Also known as “NVC” or “Compassionate Communication”). Do not be misled by the name, as it has very little to do with ‘violence’ as it is often defined. However, NVC shines a light on the subtle (and not-so-subtle) ways that we contribute to ineffective (and often harmful) forms of communication. The system provides simple tools to express ourselves and listen more effectively and compassionately—increasing the odds of everyone getting their needs met. Imagine that.
So if you have a desire to have more satisfying and nourishing relationships with your friends, family, partner and (first and foremost) yourself, this class is a great way to start the year. I am already looking forward to part 2 of this class, and I suspect I will be practicing this technique for as long as I interact with the outside world!

Elana Sabajon blends NVC with other forms of compassionate counseling in her private practice in North Seattle. You can learn more about her and the art of NVC at her website: http://www.elanasabajon.com.
